(PatriotsUnited.org) – A Republican staffer has been robbed at gunpoint in Washington D.C.
The unnamed young person, who it emerged currently works for U.S. Representative Mike Collins, R-Ga., was attacked by three assailants in the city’s fashionable Navy Yard neighborhood. In the wake of his staffer’s terrifying ordeal, Collins has since candidly expressed his chagrin online, writing that one assailant robbed a watch while the other hit his employee in the face. He dramatically claimed the city had effectively become a ”war zone” because of the local government’s “pro-criminal” agenda.
The horrific crime, during which a friend of the staffer was attacked, left the pair physically unharmed but alarmed after fighting off the assailants. Official details are yet to be released about the incident, although police have published a photograph of the vehicle they believe was used in the crime, and are asking the public to offer any information about the altercation. In a further post to social media, Collins failed to be moderate in his backlash against city politicians who he said were incapable of protecting people. He also accused them of having “normalized” violent crimes like his staffer’s ordeal so much that it now impacted everyone in the area.
The U.S. capital has had a curious track record in the past year. Crime in total is reported to be down by 16 percent, with burglaries apparently plummeting by almost a quarter (23 percent) and robberies by 29 percent compared to 2023. However many people remain concerned about crime being more prevalent than it was decades ago.
This shocking crime occurred amidst a wider contentious debate about crime and public safety in D.C. One report recently accused right-wingers of creating unnecessary “moral panic” over theft and other offenses. Many conservatives and leftists alike complain that overly lenient attitudes toward crime and policing are allowing offenders to run riot, in the wake of the “Defund the Police” campaign and interrelated “Black Lives Matter” movement.
