(PatriotsUnited.org) – Former top Trump aide Steve Bannon came under fire over the weekend, in an interview with ABC News. His former boss Donald Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee, continues to slam his successor President Joe Biden for allegedly orchestrating political attacks on him via the judicial branch. He also claims that he lost the 2020 election due to fraud.
Bannon’s “War Room” podcast has claimed the need for “retribution” for Trump’s struggles, which the ABC co-anchor alleged were a cornerstone of Trump’s campaign rhetoric. A clip was aired from Trump’s speech at the 2023 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), where he declared, “I am your voice… I am your retribution.”
In a recorded interview, Bannon, who served as the White House’s chief strategist for Trump’s first seven months in office, defended the notion of investigating those in positions of authority but sought to allay concerns, stating, “If you haven’t done anything, you shouldn’t worry.”
Bannon was further quizzed on the apprehensions expressed by former Trump allies who fear retribution. Bannon responded by referencing Trump’s recent debate statement where he framed retribution as a drive for national success. Bannon elaborated, “What we’re saying is we want justice.” He also failed to rule out criminal charges.
The prospect of Trump’s promised investigations has stirred considerable unease among former officials and critics alike. Bannon hinted at potential probes into figures such as General Mark Milley and erstwhile Defense Secretary Mark Esper, who both sparred with Trump relating to military intervention in Black Lives Matter in Summer 2020.
Bannon was also pressed on controversial remarks made during a 2020 podcast, in which he figuratively suggested placing Dr. Anthony Fauci and then-FBI Director Christopher Wray’s heads on pikes to warn their fellow bureaucrats, comments which Bannon defended as merely metaphorical. The Trump campaign has not yet publicly commented on the matter. Bannon’s remarks came ahead of his surrender to a federal prison on July 1st, 2024 after he was recently criminally convicted after refusing to comply with the House Investigation into the January 6th Capitol Hill riot in 2021.
