(PatriotsUnited.org) – U.S. President Joe Biden made a shocking statement on Sunday, admitting after weeks of speculation, that he would immediately withdraw from his re-election bid. He later formally said he would be backing Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement. GOP vice presidential nominee and former venture capitalist J.D. Vance hastily hit back at the news online.
“President Trump and I are ready to save America, whoever’s at the top of the Democrat ticket. Bring it on,” Vance wrote to X (formerly known as Twitter). He then laid into both Biden and Harris’ record in government, describing the former as “the worst President” he had witnessed, and suggested that Kamala Harris was complicit in his failures due to her being in the administration with him during a slew of immigration and environmental policy failures.
He complained that during their four years of leadership, Harris had backed Biden’s “open border and green scam” changes which were making life financially more difficult for ordinary people, including in relation to food and housing. Vance also accused Harris of being dishonest about Biden’s health.
Biden’s historic drop-out marks a landmark change, as it is incredibly rare for a sitting president to abandon their re-election bid. His endorsement of Harris makes her bid to be the Democratic nominee although there are a slew of other contenders. Being the VP pick already, Harris’ Presidential campaign would be able to use Biden’s multi-million-dollar campaign funds, which other wannabe Democratic candidates would not be able to use.
Vance has led part of the GOP’s swift messaging against Harris, aided by her already extensive popularity. Only in recent months have some of her speeches been used as memes, aiding her popularity with some Gen-Z social media users, although many have criticized her more Centrist view on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, the GOP still seems determined to benefit from voters’ anger over Biden and Harris’ approach to key issues such as cost of living and illegal immigration.
