(PatriotsUnited.org) – Former White House trade aide Peter Navarro was warmly welcomed at last week’s Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee. His appearance, alongside fiancée Bonnie, took place mere hours following his release from a Miami federal prison.
Navarro’s July 17th release came after he was incarcerated for being found in contempt of Congress, making him the first White House official to have ever been jailed on such charges. He had declined to follow a subpoena from the House committee investigating 2021’s January 6th Capitol riot. “This morning, I walked out of federal prison,” Navarro told the cheering crowd, adding: “If they can come for me, if they can come for Donald Trump, be careful. They will come for you.”
He recounted his defiance of what he described as a politically motivated committee. “The legislative branch came for me first. Nancy Pelosi created the January 6th committee which demanded that I violate executive privilege. I refused.” Navarro warned Trump supporters that their liberties could be similarly threatened. “You may think this couldn’t happen to you. Make no mistake, they are already coming for you. Joe and Kamala.” He kissed his fiancée on stage, to raucous applause and cheers. Navarro, who was previously married to Leslie Lebon from 2001 to 2020, said that his jail sentence should be a “wake-up call” for the pro-MAGA attendees, suggesting his belief that he and other Republicans had been victims of injustice.
This year’s Republican convention ended with the official nomination of President Donald Trump as the party’s presidential candidate for November’s election. Many of Trump’s supporters see Navarro’s imprisonment and release as emblematic of the injustices they believe their movement faces. Navarro’s speech quickly made waves on social media, with many praising his steadfastness. “The January 6th committee demanded that I betray Donald J. Trump to save my own skin. I REFUSED,” Navarro reiterated, a quote widely shared online.
Navarro previously attempted to persuade Trump to push for the U.S. to exit the North American Free Trade Agreement and has been a vocal critic of China’s regime.
