(PatriotsUnited.org) – A fresh poll has found that most Republican voters plan to vote for Donald Trump in the upcoming Presidential election because they specifically support him, rather than simply seeing him as preferable to President Joe Biden.
The survey, carried out between May 24 and 26 this year concluded that a whopping 81 percent of GOP voters backed Trump explicitly, with just 19 percent saying that they wished to vote against Biden. 1,003 U.S. adults were quizzed as part of the poll.
The poll took place prior to Trump’s guilty verdict in a controversial Manhattan criminal trial. Among Democrats, sentiments are more divided. 69 percent said they were voting for Biden, while 31% said they were casting votes to help lower Trump’s chances of a win. Biden appeared more unpopular among Democrats aged 55 and older.
The poll also concluded a very tight race if votes were cast today, with Trump garnering 46 percent of the vote to Biden’s 45. Notably, 41% of those surveyed said they thought Trump would win, while a mere 33 percent were certain of a Biden victory. Over half (58%) of Democrat voters said they preferred if Biden were replaced as their candidate. Democrats aged 18 to 34 overwhelmingly supported such a move, with 72% favoring a fresh face.
The backdrop to these poll results includes Trump’s recent legal troubles. He made history by becoming the first former president convicted of felony crimes, with a New York jury finding him guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records. The case centered on Trump’s then lawyer’s forwarding of hush-money to an adult film actress he was alleged to have previously had an affair with, ahead of the 2016 election.
As the country ramps up for yet another divisive election season, another study finds that public interest in the race has climbed fairly high with over half (58 percent) of Americans are following the election very or moderately closely. They also expressed fatigue over election news.
