(PatriotsUnited.org) – On Saturday evening President Biden made a public speech to the nation following an attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life at a Pennsylvania rally. Trump suffered a minor ear injury after a bullet grazed him. At 8 pm Saturday Biden said he had been briefed on the earlier incident, and that he was “ grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well.” He also claimed to be praying for Trump and his relatives while more information was gathered.
The shocking assassination attempt on the GOP’s presumptive nominee took place over the course of just a few moments. Shots were fired toward Trump as he spoke to thousands of Pennsylvania supporters. After a bullet seemingly grazed Trump’s ear, Secret Service agents took him away from the stage as blood was visible on his face. He was not seriously injured.
Speaking from his property in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Biden said he and his wife Dr Jill Biden were grateful for the Secret Service’s swift response. He said there was no place for such violence in America, urging the entire nation to “condemn it.” Barack Obama, Trump’s direct predecessor in the Oval Office, made similar remarks to Biden over the weekend, admonishing political violence, while admitting the full facts of the incident were not yet known. He stressed how crucial civility was in politics.
Condemnation from across all sides of U.S. politics has emerged in the wake of the shocking violence, despite increasing division in the country. The George W. Bush Presidential Center published a statement in which Bush offered his thanks for Trump being physically unscathed from the events. He also thanked the Secret Service for their work. Former President Bill Clinton made similar remarks via social media. The Carter Center, founded in 1982 by then U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn also issued a post in which they condemned the “horrific act”. In the past, four incumbent U.S. presidents have been killed.
