(PatriotsUnited.org) – Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has vowed not to offer financial support to either President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump ahead of their looming rematch for the Oval Office. On Wednesday 6th March, Trump’s only remaining high-profile rival for the GOP nomination, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, dropped out of the race without endorsing her former boss. Haley’s decision follows months of polls showing Trump as the frontrunner by a wide margin. Musk made his key announcement on X formerly known as Twitter, the platform he acquired in 2022.
In the wake of Haley’s official withdrawal, Musk said he wanted to “be super clear” that he would not be donating funds to either candidate. This statement comes in the wake of reports from The New York Times about an alleged meeting between Musk and Trump, along with a select group of affluent Republican supporters in Florida. The rendezvous was allegedly geared toward bolstering the Trump campaign’s finances as the ex-President mounts a series of pricey legal challenges while also gearing up for November’s Presidential election. The New York Times cited sources that claimed Trump has praised Musk to his associates, and expressed his wish for a personal discussion with the tech magnate. The Trump campaign is yet to respond to this report.
Since acquiring X, Musk has employed the platform to amplify voices of prominent conservatives and right-leaning figures. Some of his actions have garnered criticism and led to advertiser boycotts due to Musk’s propagation of unverified or controversial theories. He has also posted overt criticism of the Biden administration, who have in turn, often rebuked him.
When Florida Governor Ron DeSantis initiated his bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination last year, Musk hosted a candid “Twitter Spaces” event. During this discussion, DeSantis denounced Democrats, the media, and so-called American “elites”. Musk’s decision comes despite his tendency to wade in on controversial political and cultural matters online, and will certainly deprive both Trump and Biden of a major source of public and financial support.
